Embraced by the Roanoke and Meherin Rivers, Northampton County was established in 1741. The lush farms, massive forests and quiet rivers offer much to its 22,000 residents and thousands of visitors that visit our area each year. It is home to numerous golf and hunting clubs, fishing tournaments and historic walking tours.
Northampton County is located in northeastern North Carolina astride the state’s Coastal Plain and Piedmont Regions. The county is located 90 miles northeast of Raleigh, the state capital, and 50 miles north of Rocky Mount, N.C. Bordered by Virginia on the north, the County lies 90 miles southwest of Norfolk, VA and is 200 miles south of Washington, DC.
